Orchid Orthopedics Receives State Grant for Employee Training

Holt, Mich.-based Orchid Orthopedic Solutions LLC will receive a $300,000 state grant to train employees on new equipment as part of its recent expansion in the Wolverine State, according to a recent announcement in the Lansing State Journal.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC)—the folks behind the “Pure Michigan” advertising campaign—awarded the grant on Sept. 8.

According to the newspaper, the money will go toward the cost of training 35 new employees that the company plans to hire as a result of a $4.8 million expansion that includes new manufacturing equipment. According to MEDC, the jobs will pay an average of $18.70 per hour.

The company has been in expansion mode in recent months. In May, Orchid officials announced that the firm added a manufacturing facility in Jackson, Tenn.—an expansion of Orchid’s site in Arab, Alabama. International growth has been on tap as well. In June, the company broke ground on a new 28,400-square-foot manufacturing facility in Pune, India. The site, according to company officials at the time of the announcement, will serve the Asian market as well as global customers looking for “additional manufacturing options.”

Orchid Orthopedic Solutions is a contract manufacturers of medical devices, primarily orthopedic implants and surgical tools.
